Examination of Attitudes of Physical Education and Classroom Teacher Candidates Towards The Teaching Profession: The Case of Artvin

Abstract

The aim of this study is to determine the attitudes of teacher candidates, studying in the department of physical education and sports teaching and the department of classroom teaching, towards the teaching profession and to examine whether or not these attitudes differ based on some variables. Positive attitudes towards the teaching profession are crucial in terms of education and teacher candidates who will receive training in this field should have gained certain characteristics in this context. A total of 100 teacher candidates including 31 in physical education and sports teaching and 69 in classroom teaching participated voluntarily in the study. The 'Attitude Scale Towards Teaching', which has 22 items and was developed by Erkuş, Sanlı, Bağlı and Güven (2000) to evaluate attitudes towards the teaching profession, was used as a data collection tool in the study. No significant difference was found between the perceptions on attitudes towards the teaching profession in terms of the variables of class and gender. However, there was a significant difference between attitudes of Physical Education and Classroom teacher candidates towards the teaching profession in terms of the department variable.
